Hair straighteners are devices used on human hair to change its form from curly to straight without damaging the natural curls. A hair straightener is also called a hair crimper, hair trimmer or flat iron. There are basically three types: straighteners, curling irons or flat irons and hair crimpers, also known as crimping irons or straighteners. They can be divided further into several categories depending on their function.

Straighteners include tourmaline straighteners, magnesium straighteners and tourmaline hair relaxers. The most popular and common straighteners are the hot irons. These use metals that produce small amounts of electricity when heated with a requisite temperature. Their design makes it easy to control the temperature and they usually come with automatic temperature adjustments. The tourmaline straighteners use sodium hydroxide to produce different hair color. Sodium hydroxide is known for it's deodorizing properties and these straighteners use a chemical reaction to produce a greasy residue.

Many manufacturers combine keratin proteins together to provide stronger hair-straightening strands. They usually contain one or more keratin molecules that attach to the keratin already present in the strands. The heat generated makes the keratin molecules glide along the strands, coating each strand and lifting the dirt, oils and debris from between the strands. The strength of these straighteners depends on the amount of keratin used.

In addition, there are also mechanical straighteners. Mechanical straighteners consist of ceramic plates, which are extremely hard and can hold very hot plates. They are the best choice to use if you cannot flatten your own hair. Ceramic straighteners work because the heat from the plates makes the oil inside the strands move to the top layer, where it helps to straighten them. The only drawback of this type of straightener is that you need to regularly re-apply the heat-freshening solution to prevent damaging your hair.

Finally, you have steam straighteners. The steam is used to activate the molecules in the straightener's plates. Once these molecules come into contact with the oil and dirt trapped inside the plates, they lift it off and remove it. Steam straighteners are the ideal straighteners for those who want to straighten their hair without using chemicals. However, they are not recommended for use on colored hair.

If you need to straighten your hair with the help of straighteners, you may opt to use a hair straightening lotion. There are a number of professional hair straightening lotions available, but if you cannot afford to buy one, then you can make your own. Simply apply the straightening lotion on your hair and wrap it around your palm. Once the lotion is onto your hair, gently massage the lotion all over your hair until it is thoroughly covered all over your hair. Once the lotion is done, simply run your fingers through your hair and you will notice a big change in your frizziness.

There are also other types of straighteners, such as ceramic, tourmaline, titanium and stainless steel straighteners. Each has their own unique features that cater to the needs of different hair types. If you have short hair types, then you can choose to use ceramic straighteners, which are more lightweight and thin. If you have long hair types, then you can go for a tourmaline or titanium straightener that offer lightweight properties.

All in all, choosing a straightener depends on your hair type and what you want it for. If you are looking for a portable tool, then flat irons are good choices. However, if you need a long lasting tool that offers high temperature styling, then you should consider using a traditional straightener. Flat irons are perfect for all kinds of hairstyles and will not cause any damage to your hair. If you have short hair, then titanium, ceramic and tourmaline straighteners are your best choice, since they are lighter and more flexible than the traditional straighteners.
